Chắc hẳn các bạn thường thấy phong cách thiết kế với các chất liệu đặc trưng bê tông thô mộc trần tường sàn kết hợp với thép trong các trang trí thiết kế tại Việt nam gần đây. Điểm đặc biệt là phong cách này gây ấn tượng rất mạnh bởi yêu cầu về vật liệu đơn giản. Ngoài ra còn đi chung với nghệ thuật sắp đặt này là các vật trang trí thủ công tuyệt đẹp với chất liệu thô như đồng kim loại giả gỉ .

Phong cách này gọi là Brutalism hay còn gọi là Chủ nghĩa thô mộc.

Bruta bắt nguồn từ tiếng Pháp có nghĩa là bê tông tươi (beton brut) được xuất hiện giai đoạn 1950 – 1970.

Nhà nghệ thuật Alberto Giacometti  ông sinh 10/10/1901 là một trong những người khởi xướng phong trào nghệ thuật yêu thích này.

Trước đó là KTS vĩ đại Le Corbusier với các công trình như Khu nhà ở Unite’ Pháp

Kiến trúc sư Louis Kahn Mỹ với Salk Institute (Học viện Salk)

Có thể nói rằng Brutalism là phong cách đáp trả với Neoclassic Tân Cổ điển sau khi nó đã đưa được các định nghĩa mới từ vật liệu mới như gỉ đồng, gỉ sét bê tông thô thay cho da thú vàng bạc sáng bóng đá marble cao cấp của thời kỳ trước chiến tranh xuyên suốt nghệ thuật tạo tác và bố cục.

Đặc điểm hình thành: Do yêu cầu tái thiết cơ sở hạ tầng nhà cửa bị hủy hoại sau chiến tranh thế giới thứ hai là rất lớn, yêu cầu cho xây dựng lúc này là giá chấp nhận được. Phong trào Brutalist đã đáp ứng được yêu cầu đó và mãi đến nay do tính tiết kiệm của nó. Tuy nhiên ngày nay nói đến Brutalist không còn riêng là giá rẻ nữa vì các nhà nội thất Ý vẫn có giá từ vài ngàn cho đến tiền chục ngàn đô la Mỹ 1 ghế sofa thời trang hay tiền triệu USD cho một tác phẩm nghệ thuật phong cách.
